Broadway Back to School Cupcakes

The curtain is going opening,
it is showtime...
even Broadway is going Back to School!
I don't want to be dramatic,
but we are easing the pain of returning to high school's hallowed halls
with playbill topped cupcakes.

Of course there will be some Mean Girls...

some cool dudes...

those who struggle...

but hopefully the year will be musical and fun.

The show must go on, right?

Playbill cupcake toppers are in my Etsy Shop.

Bastille Day Broadway Breakfast

Bonjour!
This year we are waking up on Bastille Day and celebrating
with a breakfast of amazing French pastries and honoring two beloved
Broadway musicals set in Paris.

Because it's always good to reflect on Love and Redemption...

to sing at the top of your lungs,
"I've got rhythm"...

and croissants are always a good idea,
just like Paris!
Who could ask for anything more?

Oooh La La...
Broadway toppers are available in my Etsy Shop.

Lady Bird Ding Dongs, our tribute to Sacramento

The Golden Globe nominated film, Lady Bird, is lovely, quirky and sentimental.
It is about a young girl's love/hate relationship with her hometown of Sacramento.
As it turns out, the city is not just a backdrop, but one of the stars of the movie.
If you are from California, you know our state capitol often gets a bad rap,
 as a boring town,
that pales in comparison to flashier places like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Lady Bird's affectionate tribute is making everyone take a second look at Sacramento.

My family has our own fond memories of trips up north
and we will be celebrating Lady Bird with Ding Dongs.
Yes, Ding Dongs.

Years ago, we traveled to Sacramento and visited our friend Patrick's restaurant,
We had a wonderful dinner outside on the patio
and when it was time for dessert, Patrick insisted we try the homemade Ding Dongs.
My kids were little and had never heard of, nor tasted the nostalgic Hostess treats.
My son was a picky eater at the time and he declined, but they sent some out anyway.
Oh boy, are we glad they did.
They took the idea of those ordinary, boxed cakes and elevated every flavor to a new level.
Jack had never, ever tasted anything so good, he could not stop talking about them.
(in fact he's 17 now and still remembers that night)
And so, Ding Dongs and our amazing dinner at Mulvaney's
will forever remind us of our trip to Sacramento.
We realized, just like Lady Bird did, that there are things in and about Sacramento,
that you just can't find anywhere else.

But there are other great movies nominated too
and we will be topping other treats while watching the awards.
Frightening tales like I, Tonya and Get Out...

Stories about artists and showmen...

Movies where the fine print is key...

Two very different adventures in Europe...

and a visual masterpiece about a complex relationship...

The Golden Globes is always a unique event, and this year will be no exception.
I mean really, did you ever think there would be a reason to put
Tonya Harding on a cupcake??

Enjoy the show!

Stranger Things 2 Cupcakes

Stranger Things is back with a vengeance and we are so excited.

Binge watching is always better with food
and we are paying homage to the decade that sets the scene with
Stranger Things 80's Cupcakes!

Nothing brings you back in time like music.
We made album cover cupcakes from some of the classic tunes from the season 1 sound track.
I am sorry in advance for getting these songs stuck in your head but,
they included:
The Clashes, Should I Stay or Should I go...

Corey Hart's, Sunglasses at Night...

Modern English's, I Melt with You...

Toto's, Africa...

and of course we had to do a tribute to Eleven's Eggo Waffle obsession...

Happy Watching Everyone...

Off to College Movie Night

Summer is in the home stretch
and in a few short weeks my daughter will be off to college.
So instead of totally freaking out, I do what I do best - throw a party.
It's time for a
College Movie Night!

A simple and special night that will hopefully be "educational"...

They'll learn what to do when you're the underdog...

if you're the smartest student in the room...

how to handle those frat boys...

and that love means never having to say you're sorry...

Of course any movie night must have popcorn.

Angie's BOOMCHICKAPOP will be giving new meaning to
CHICKa-Flicks!

Especially in college,
remembering that the best way to get out there and crush it every day,
is by having a better-for-you snack with real, simple ingredients.
(and they'll learn the valuable lesson that amazing, colorful packaging is always a home run)

and find out more about Angie's BOOMCHICKAPOP here

Thank you to Angie's BOOMCHICKAPOP for supplying your amazing popcorn. Shop Back to College at Target.com!
