Turning Missoni into Lemonade...

8:15am Yesterday:
(just 15 minutes after Target opened their doors)
Knowing that Missoni for Target was hitting the shelves,
I decided to check it out right after I dropped the kids off at school.
I needed to get a gift and I thought something from the Missoni line
would be perfect.
(And and maybe a little something fun for myself.)

I entered the lot and it was FULL. I finally snagged a space and noticed
disheveled people already leaving the store with huge shopping bags.
Some looked at me with a slight smirk, as if I didn't know what I was in for.
I start to get worried...

I walked in and the Missoni women's clothing section already looks like a war zone.
It is mayhem, people are yelling across the room for their friends,
hangers are tossed as colorful items are grabbed and the racks are nearly empty.
I look over to the accessories department ...it is bare.
People are guarding their carts, FULL of
beautiful chevron print clothing, pillows, bags, shoes.
How did they get so much so fast?

I beeline to the shoes and there are only sizes 12 and 5
of the cute Missoni flats and boots.
Next, to the Home section where the shelves
that held all the pillows and throws are wiped clean.

I call my brother-in-law who used to work for Target Corporate to tell him that
"all the Missoni "stuff" is already gone!".

My guardian angel overhears my dismay and hands me 1 of
the 5 gorgeous infinity scarves she has in her heaping cart and says I can have it!
Thrilled that I at least got something,
(and something I totally love and wanted I might add)
I head to the Kitchen area where 20 people
are hovering around the tiny Target employee who is frantically
trying to open more boxes.
There are shouts of pure joy as they realize she
has a box full of rolling luggage and bags...
they are swooped up in seconds.
I managed to get my hands on a laptop cover and 2 media storage boxes.
I see an end cap with just a few lonely drinking glasses and grab them.
I couldn't take it anymore, I had to get out of there.

I got home exhausted and disappointed that I didn't have time
to think about what I was buying.
As I looked at my "slim pickings",
I decided then to turn my Lemons Missoni into Lemonade
and put together this gift.

but after my day at Target,
I may have to turn it into Lemoncello.

oh, and here is my scarf!
Is it too much to wear it to Friday's Fall Family Picnic at school?

  1. Apparently the Target site went down yesterday as well. Missoni seems to be great business for them This is my first visit to your blog, but I'll be back. You've created a lovely spot for your readers to visit and I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary

  2. Ha! Our store was in the same shape as yours!!! :) I ended up with an outfit for my 9yo daughter and my 12 yo daughter and I got matching shirts. She wants us to wear them to church. Sweet, right?

Love the scarf--totally wear it to the fall festival. If it is cool enough. Our days here are still in the upper 80's.

And I've moved my blog---I'll be posting a link to the new site. I hope you'll stop by to visit. :)

  7. I went tonight and so bummed there were just things that I really didn't want. Except, one thing, a little girl's coat. Just after leaving the store my mom called to say she had bought it! She had no idea! I am so thrilled. Come over and see a glitter fairy room and Interchangeable Wreath.

  11. Great post! I went to Target yesterday and was able to find two media storage boxes in a purply floral print. They also had some shoes in the wrong sizes. Hope they get more merchandise in soon!

  12. I don't get the Black Friday-eque Missoni War Zone. Part of it is that the big and loud prints in the collection don't work on a 4'11" gal like me :), so it's not my favorite Target and high end designer pairing. The bizarre thing is how quickly everything sold out! Apparently a lot of people swooped in bought anything and everything they could so they could resell it on eBay. The auction prices are CRAZY high.

  13. I got the same cups! I live in Central Indiana and hit an out of the way store. I got a few dresses for my daughter and a dress and shirt for myself. Funny thing is I wore the dress and with-in 5 minutes of having it on, a seem ripped in the sleeve.
I took it back, and told my hubby it may be Missoni, but the label still reads made in China :(

  14. You are SOOOOOO lucky! I was online that morning at 7:50 (yes, even though I had a recently injured child in the house) and by the time I walked my older son to the door for his ride to school....FROZEN. The darn website was locked up and I was locked out. I had a bunch of cute things in virtual cart...that were gone by the time the server came up.

So...wear that scarf everywhere and enjoy!!!!
    xoxo Elizabeth
