Holiday Fondue

My family loves fondue.
It is so easy and fun. 
There is just something about having your own stick to dunk chunks of fruit,
 into rich, creamy chocolate that is irresistible!

I had the opportunity to choose a dessert from the Truvia® website
that I would like to make.
Of course, the fondue caught my eye!

I gathered unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, skim milk, 
Truvia® spoonable natural sweetener and vanilla extract...

then I simply put everything but the vanilla in a heavy saucepan,
and brought to a boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly...

 I reduced the heat and simmered for 3 minutes until it was thick, 
removed from the stove and whisked in the vanilla...
that was it!

I called in the kids and we each grabbed a Santa Hat fondue stick...

we dipped in a variety of fruit...

but the banana was everyone's favorite...

and then it was time for the gingerbread men...

they took a swim in the chocolate pool!

I have a confession to make,
I didn't tell my kids that I was making fondue any differently than usual....
and they had no idea!

It was exactly like using regular sugar.
It has the same sugar-like taste and texture but has 75% fewer calories and twice the amount of sweetness.
It is made from the stevia plant that is native to Paraguay, where people have grown, harvested and used it as a sweetener for hundreds of years.

    But I've always been told, when you share dessert... calories don't count ;)
